Zurkhaneh in Nepal
Zurkhaneh sports was introduced for the first time in Nepal in 2006. For this purpose, Murshed Mr. Merteza Hasmi, coach Mr. Mehdi Gholami Dizicheech and the Interpreter Mr. Farruck Zaidi were here in Katmandu and conducted training. The training was participated by a considerable numbers of students from various schools of Katmandu. Altogether, 12 students were selected for the final training held from 20th to 31st August 2006. From the training seven students were selected for the First Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Festival in Tehran,. Iran.
The first Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Festival was held in Teheran, the Islamic Republic of Iran 18-24 November 2006.
Altogether 26 countries including Nepal, Iran, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Korea had participated in this festival. Although Zurkhaneh in Nepal was only a few months' young, our sportsmen, students, performed very well. Nepal got 7th position in the tournament. And the Nepalese team and the members of Nepal Zurkhaneh very gratefully thank the trainers Mursed Mr. Merteza Hasmi and coach Mr. Mehdi Gholami and Mr. Samrat Singh of IZSF for their very sincere efforts and care of the Nepalese trainees. And we also are equally grateful to them for their encouragement and confidence.
Meanwhile Mr. Karna Bahadur Shahi, the president of Nepal Zurkhaneh Sports Association (NZSA) was elected the chairperson of the SAARC Zurkhaneh. After its successful participation in the first Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Festival in Iran the NZSF vigorously worked for the development of Zurkhaneh sports in Nepal. Although school students are playing the pivotal role for the development of this sport (all the sports in fact) the NZSF was justified at the International Zurkhaneh Sports Tournament in Kish Island, Iran. Out of 23 countries from Asia, America, Europe and Africa including Iran, Switzerland, Canada, Korea, India and the rest, Nepal got the third position. This great achievement must be taken as the proof of Nepal's potential, ability and enthusiasm for the promotion of this game
